 Lytton – One Year Later – a Day of Reflection and Healing  

June 30, 2022, marked the one-year anniversary of the wildfires that destroyed 90% of Lytton. Thirteen members from Fraser Lands made the trip to help at the Stein Valley Nlakapamux School in an event commemorating the occasion.  

A packaging team of over 10 prepared over 450 snack boxes for us to bring to Lytton for the event. We put on a label that says “Wishing you a meaningful and peaceful day” - that was our prayer.   

Our team spent a long day witnessing the resilience of our dear friends and neighbours in Lytton. Over 400 Lyttonites attended the event in addition to 80 volunteers. There were emotional moments when messages were written to be buried in a time capsule. The child who buried the capsule is a 6-year-old kid named Emery. Hopefully he will be the one to open the capsule in 30 years.  

By the end of the event, we were tired as most of us woke up at 3:30 a.m. to make the trip but our spirits were uplifted. We served alongside many volunteers including brothers and sisters from a few Korean churches and Samaritan Purse. The Korean churches are from a group called "Love First Nations Ministry (LFNM)” from Metro Vancouver. It is great to know we are not alone on this journey.  

Please join us in praising the Lord for allowing us to serve and continue to pray for the rebuilding of Lytton. There are many facets to the rebuilding process and is not easy.  

Our next trips to Lytton will be in August and we need a lot of help and ideas. The LFNM is conducting a weeklong summer program from Tuesday to Thursday August 16 to 18. They will be serving 5 different First Nation Bands in 7 locations in the Lytton area. They need help in many areas: meals, programs, services, and logistics. We will also be helping the Lytton Rivers Festival on Saturday August 27 with carnival games.
