Team: Eleven persons joined our short term missions team, all from Fraser Lands Church. We spent two weeks in the capital city of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, serving mainly students in school, and the kids in the vicinity of a Christian school.
Ministry: We played, sang, taught, read stories, did craft projects with the children who spoke little or no English. The team donated and replaced 25 out-dated computers in a school computer lab. We also enjoyed a few days engaged with young victims of abuse, at a recovery shelter.
Rejoicing: No one had suffered serious health issues nor affected by the scorching weather. The children understood the language of love crossing all barriers. We appreciated and learned so much from the lives and passion from the missionaries and a group of devoted local workers. God protected all teammates over our long journey. We had received enormous support from our home church. Thank you for praying for us. God is faithful and good.
Overtime: Paul and Molly stayed behind in Cambodia for an extra two weeks, to paint a mural at a school, the one and only all-girls high school in that country. Was painting walls considered a ministry? The afternoon after the mural was completed, the missionary called an assembly of the entire student body in front of the mural. Molly shared her testimony and challenged the girls to be light reflectors of Jesus, who is the light of the world; the missionary gave a charge to the students. They were given an opportunity to commit their lives to God. Each student indicated her dedication by lighting a candle and writing herself a “time capsule” letter – to be opened on her graduation day. The mural served as a means to inspire and to remind the youth daily of their dedication to Christ.
Glory to God!
